A Christmas Story - the Musical!

You’ll Shoot Your Eye Out Kid!

Our final production in the 2018 season is based off the classic 1983 movie, and comes to hilarious life in this contemporary musical with all the flash and flair of Broadway!  A Christmas Story chronicles young and bespectacled Ralphie Parker as he schemes his way toward the holiday gift of his dreams, and an official Red Ryder® BB gun. An infamous leg lamp, outrageous pink bunny pajamas, a maniacal department store Santa, and a triple-dog dare to lick a freezing flagpole are just a few of the distractions that stand between Ralphie and his Christmas wish.

Book by Joseph Robinette, Music and Lyrics by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul

Hollywood 1939: legendary producer David O. Selznick stopped production on his most anticipated movie, Gone with the Wind. Determined to produce a rewrite in five days, he engages the reluctant ace script doctor Ben Hecht (perhaps the only person in America who has not read the novel) and the movie’s new director Victor Fleming, poached from the set of The Wizard of Oz, where he’d been squabbling with Munchkins and coming to blows with Judy Garland. His reputation on the line, and with nothing but a stockpile of peanuts and bananas to sustain them, Selznick locks himself and his two collaborators in an office, and a hilarious marathon writing session ensues.  A can’t miss comedy. It only takes one glance for her to fall head over heels for dashing shooting ace Frank Butler, who headlines the show. Our family just enjoyed the Friday evening performance of ‘Hometown Holiday On The Air’ at the Snug. We were so very impressed with the entire performance and production: Six-part harmonies sung perfectly, the musicians were top notch, the players were all exceptional, especially the blonde soprano. The MC was perfect. The musical arrangements were nothing short of brilliant and the sound and lighting were par excellence! We laughed so hard that we were in tears, sang along and laughed some more. What a top-notch, professional performance! We hope you’ll bring it back again next season! STORM - A Maritime Concert

Storm is one-part history lesson and one-part rock concert recounting the famous shipwrecks of the Great Lakes. The show fuses actual eyewitness interviews, spellbinding underwater video, and contemporary music that creates a unforgettable history lesson. Storm remembers the terrifying gales, and the survivals of sailors who were caught in the tempest. Over 300 years of exploration and navigation are unveiled to the audience, from French fur trading ships to modern cement boats that currently ply the lakes.

Ric Mixter hosts Storm, transporting the audience back to the age of sail and steam. Dan Hall provides the melody, with lyrics derived from historical accounts of survivors. Dan’s songs are as powerful as the massive modern freighters he heralds in “Thousand Foot Keel”, and his amazing voice provides requiem for those lost to the lakes.

Ric Mixter has been featured on the History and Discovery channels as an expert on Great Lakes storms. He has produced over 30 programs for PBS and tours the Midwest as one of the most popular shipwreck lecturers. Ric has visited over 100 shipwrecks, from German U-Boats to 150 year old schooners. He’s traveled thousands of miles to record wrecks in the ocean and on the lakes and he’s one of the few to actually visit the Edmund Fitzgerald.

Storm merges the unique on-stage personas of Hall and Mixter, utilizing a giant video screen to share archived imagery during the songs and stories.

With an estimated 5,000 shipwrecks on the lakes, Storm will always be a new experience. Ric says "Storm will be customized to the St. Clair River area, showcasing local history in addition to the big stories."

Younce Guitar Duo

Younce Guitar Duo

Jerry and Ryan Younce are a unique instrumental guitar duo that infuse elements of Jazz, Latin, and Celtic music into familiar songs like Van Morrison’s Moondance, The Beatles While My Guitar Gently Weeps, and other classic favorites.

This father-and-son guitar duo was formed in 2008, when Ryan invited his father to join him for a gig he had booked at Short’s Brewery in Bellaire, Michigan. The joy and enthusiasm they have while playing their music is infectious, and their relaxed yet energetic manner is a testament to their musicianship. The duo easily wins over audiences with the dynamic sounds of their richly layered guitar work, and the sense of warmth and community at their shows explains why a large portion of their audience will regularly travel around the area to see them perform.

The Big Bad Musical

The Big Bad Musical

Presented by Riverbank Performing Arts Academy's Musical Theatre students. The notorious Big Bad Wolf is being slapped with a class-action lawsuit by storybooks of quirky characters who want to get even:  Little Red Riding Hood, her Grandmother, the Three Little Pigs and the Shepherd in charge of the Boy Who Cried Wolf.  With the Grimm sisters as the commentators on live Court TV, the two greatest legal minds in the Enchanted Forest — the Evil Stepmother and the Fairy Godmother — clash in a trial that will be remembered forever after.  As our wronged fairy tale characters testify, the wolf seems deserving of all that’s coming.  Yet, even though the infamous Evil Stepmother resents doing pro-bono work on such an obviously futile defense, Mr. Wolf makes a good case for himself.  Was he born a criminal, or made one?

Performances at The Snug Theatre on Saturday, February 18 at 1:00, 3:00 and 5:00 p.m.

$5.00 each.
